“People ask me what my subject matter is. Really my subject matter is paint… In Venezuela and Brazil I began to see people’s stance and what it meant. How the foot is. How they put their hands, how they touch each other. I have one painting of a Brazilian family. It’s just about how they are all connected by their hands. In the last of the series, I didn’t even bother painting their bodies. The whole painting was just hands. I like to bring all these things together in my life. Especially because I’m an old woman now and it’s so great that I have a lot to call on. I want to use all these things that I’ve experienced and… go for it, right.”
